Billy Liar

Last week I borrowed three movies from my buddy Jason. During the past couple of days we have watched two of them - 'Volver' and 'Big Fish', both great movies. We were saving the third one to watch during this weekend, but then I read yesterday that Keith Waterhouse had died, so last night I watched the third film I had borrowed - 'Billy Liar' as a kind of little tribute to the great writer.

  1. Hey there Tim,
this is one of my all-time desert island movies and novels. This film is so poignant and not a bad performance from the entire cast.

  2. True Sid. I remember the first time I saw it and the resonance with myself, about to embark to that London in search of fame and fortune, and the mix of excitement and horrors that the anticipation of the adventure threw up. The movie captures the time perfectly, and the lovely touch of the drama taking place amidst the demolition of urban deprivation adds to the poignancy. Great performances, as you say, and Julie Christie is fairly easy on the eye too imho!
